The Celtic Village Salina on the Dürrnberg

The Celtic village on the Dürrnberg offers exciting insights into the everyday life of the prehistoric miners who dug for the "white gold" more than 2500 years ago. The replicas of houses and workshops of a Latène settlement were brought up to the latest state of research and teaching in 2013. In the entrance building, the Celtic Museum provides information about the archaeological excavations and the scientific results of the settlement history on the Dürrnberg with display cases and films.
In the individual houses there are copies of original finds at the Dürrnberg to touch and try out. "Pictures of life" from the world of the Celts by Werner Hölzl, who has been accompanying the Museum of the Celts as a graphic artist since 1980, illustrate life in the houses, Celtic craftsmanship, a burial and the slaughter of a cow. In the herb garden you can sniff the Celtic herbs for seasoning and healing.

The project was realised by the Salzwelten and the Museum of the Celts Hallein with the kind support of the EU and the Federal Government & State of Salzburg.

Guided tours of the Celtic village can be booked through the Halleiner G´schichten (Hallein City Stories).

TIP: Combine your visit to the Celtic village of Salina with a tour of the salt worlds of Hallein.
